The tenth in a row World Gymnastic Cup in Osijek has ended. The best one so far and this is not just our subjective evaluation. This is said by the numerous visitors of the city of Osijek and by the participants of the DOBRO World Cup 2018. The vast majority of the 116 female and male gymnasts and over 250 along with the accompanying staff (coaches, judges) will say that this was the best World Cup. We believe they will bring beautiful memories in 30-countries worldwide an 20 of them will also bring the medals with themselves from this competition as a memory.
Tin Srbić, the World Champion in High bar, and the winner of the DOBRO World Cup 2018 declared after this competition: „I do not know if it could get any better than this.“. By winning, he has become, as it is written on the official site of the World Gymnastics Federation, a national hero on the home field. The tenth in a row World Gymnastics Cup in Osijek will stay in a special memory also for the Ukrainian gymnast Diana Varinska who won gold medals in Uneven bars, Balance beam, and Floor and was convincingly the most successful participant of the DOBRO World Cup Osijek 2018. The only gold left was won by the legendary Oksana Chusovitina. The oldest active female gymnast, who participated at seven Olympic Games, celebrated in the Vault competition. In the male competition, there were winners from six different countries. Apart from our own Tin Srbić, who celebrated in the High bar, gold medals were won by Dominick Cunningham from Great Britain on the Floor, Lee Chih Kai from Chinese Taipei in Pommel horse, Denis Ablyazin from Russia on Rings, Marios Georgiou from Cyprus on Parallel bars, and Andrej Medvedev form Izrael in the Vault finals.
Croatian Gymnastics Federation, along with the executive organizer of the show from Gymnastics Society Osijek-Žito, numerous volounteers and with the support of the company Žito d.o.o., the city of Osijek, Osijek-Baranja County, the Central State Office for Sports, the Croatian Turisistic Society and the HEP company has made an effort to organize the most high-quality competition as possible and to also send a message through combining sport, culture and turism, as well as to promote a healthy lifestyle and to present the city of Osijek and the Osijek-Baranja County and its turistic resources. Therefore, in the popular Osijek’s Drvengrad, shortly before the World Cup was organized an outside group exercise with the Croatian gymnastic representative Robert Seligman. In this way, the organization wanted to encourage people to lead a healthy and active life.
A wonderful photo was taken from the popular Osijek’s Promenada, Osijek’s city walk where was with the help of 530 members of the numerous clubs and sport’s societies from all over Slavonia created the longest human split in the world with the length of almost thousand meters. Along with the GPP Osijek and TC Portanova for the youngest visitors was organized a play „Mouse Mišo and his friend Gymi“. All these events had one goal which was to promote the DOBRO World Cup Osijek 2018. The results of this were over 5000 visitors in total over the final days of the competition in the City Hall, and the broadcast from Osijek during the gymnastics competitions which was followed from around the globe.
For the first time during the gymnastics competition in the grounds of King Petar Krešimir IV near to the gymnastics Sokolski Dom, which will soon be renewed completely and open for public, was held a two-days FEELGOOD WEEKEND Gastro&Wine&Music Festival at which all the visitors and especially the participants of the competitions got the opportunity to fill up with lots of positive energy. For the first time as a part of the FEELGOOD WEEKEND was held a public drawing of the start numbers of the finalists in all ten-disciplines and this was also an opportunity to present all the finalists to the citizens of Osijek and its visitors. All visitors were able to enjoy excellent street food offer, sweets, homemade wines, craft beers and original cocktails and they were also entertained by the band S.A.R.S during the first night and The Frajle during the second night to the delight of not only their greatest fans but all the visitors.
The role of the media should also be pointed out and they need to be thanked. Special thanks goes to the 85 accredited media employees, journalists, photo reporters, cameramen, technical staff who are from Osijek and which had for the past few days written and told a beautiful positive story.
All this pushes us the members of the Organization Board to try to do the impossible. We will make the next eleventh in a row World Gymnastics Cup Osijek 2019 even better. We believe that we will all gather once more at the DOBRO World Cup Osijek 2019 and that many will schedule our competition in their calendars as an event that must not be missed.
