The city of Osijek is the administrative center of the Osijek-Baranja county and is situated in the east of the Republic of Croatia.
It is a city of vast cultural, historical, and even gastronomical wealth, which is why we recommend that all visitors of this part of Croatia devote some of their time getting to know the beauties and particularities of this place its citizens like to call ‘The City on the Drava’.
The Baroque Tvrđa, the Holy Trinity Square, the Water Gate and the Church of St. Peter and St. Paul (co-cathedral) are just some of the sights that have been attracting attention for centuries.
Another landmark of Osijek is its long relationship with gymnastics. Way back in 1865, it is in Osijek that Croatia’s oldest gymnastics organization was founded, ‘Pervo Društvo Gombalacah’, whose traditional descendants, even today, continue to successfully lead a large number of branches of both recreational and professional gymnastics.
However, besides having 10 years of experience in organizing the World Gymnastics Cup, Osijek will soon be able to proudly boast about the opening of the most modern gymnastics building in the region (Hawk Center), which will in turn allow Osijek to truly defend its label as ‘the city of gymnastics’.
When you visit Osijek, you will be able to confirm so yourself. Until then you can see the excellent photographs of Marko Banić, which will convey at least part of the beauty of Osijek.
